"I am not part of the Dove, I am aware of—"

Abdul waved his hand impatiently. "No more denials, Clair. You move in all circles of power and the Dove represents one such circle. You sell your name and your influence, and your influence extends into every place. ICC wanted an American bank connection and you could provide it for us, you could cover us, become our American agent. And then you inquired what we intended to use the bank for and we made it very clear, I think, that there was a need to establish a real way to use our funds for profit and for political gains. You thought to tell us of Miss Andrews. Of course we knew of her, her work in Europe on behalf of the Greens. And then there was the fire in Denmark where she had so recently labored on behalf of the violent fringe of the Green movement. This intrigued me, Clair. Her father was a violent radical himself. In his time. I want to know now what she will use this money for. And I want her friend, Senator Horan, to stop this harassment of you, of the bank. Of my associates."

Clair stared at him for a long moment. When he spoke, his voice was soft. "Then why not take care of Devereaux yourself?"

"We may," Abdul Khashogi said. "But this extends beyond him, doesn't it? If R Section authorized six agents to penetrate the ICC in Lebanon, then it has authorized his illegal activities in this country. How many more are there? I want an investigation of R Section itself, Clair, to stop this."

He leaned forward then. "The bank is more important than any other consideration. I want Miss Andrews to reveal her intentions. To you. And to use her influence with her famous friend to stop R Section. You understand that now, don't you, Clair?"
